I was given Paul's contact information by both Laurin Conlin and Layne Norton, and I'm so glad that I contacted him. Before I knew about Paul, I had done one show where I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I started working with a coach who put an immense amount of pressure on me and whose methods I did not agree with. I felt very discouraged and almost put an end to my competing career. I decided to give it one more try, and I'm so glad that I found Paul when I did. He assured me that he would help me bring my best package, and he followed through. Starting out, I had no understanding of the process/his methods of slow fat loss and flexible dieting, but I trusted him, followed the plan, and it was the best thing I could have done. As a personal trainer I have seen and worked with a ton of people in the fitness industry, but few with the knowledge, expertise, and care that Paul devotes to his clients. I emailed Paul after I saw a couple of his coaching clients posting about their contest preps on an online forum. I've been a certified personal trainer for over 4 years, but I had high expectations for my first Men's Physique competition and I wanted an experienced coach who could take me to the next level. At first I didn't know what to expect but after just a few emails, I knew Paul was the man for the job. He not only provided me with the perfect plan for my body, but he more importantly motivated me, answered every question I had, and stood by my side throughout the entire prep. With Paul's guidance and coaching, I won my competitive class and was later crowned the 1st Place Overall Men's Physique Champion. Hiring Paul Revelia as my coach was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Unlike a lot of his clients, I did not come from a background of horrible preps that left me metabolically damaged, BUT I had researched a lot and realized that this unfortunately was a big problem in the fitness community today, and I knew I did NOT want to have that same experience. I grew up as a ballet dancer and was always relatively thin. I suffered from anorexia in late high school and early college. While I got “better” and was healthier, I still had some body issue hang ups and wanted to have a fit body. I’ll admit I was always looking for the quick fix. I was willing to put some work into it, but I naively believed too much of the BS fitness information that is fed to the general population these days. For 20 years, I tried to find the magic workout and/or diet that would get me the body that I’d always wanted. I tried many different popular programs, gym classes, and fitness magazines workouts. I attempted training for a marathon and anything else I thought would get me in the best shape. This was the same with my diet – low fat, low carb, eat this, don’t eat that, eat “clean”, whatever was popular that day, I tried it. I would have some results but never to the extent that I really wanted. I always stayed relatively thin but like a lot of women was not happy with what I saw in the mirror.

Two years ago after being in a workout and diet rut and at my heaviest non-pregnancy weight, I decided that I was ready to truly work for the body I had always wanted, and this time I really researched. For the first year, I did things on my own. I started lifting heavier and heavier and counting macros. I had a neighbor who started competing and I was very much inspired by her. I started following fitness accounts on Instagram and thought if they can do this, I can do this. But in my research, I read countless stories of girls killing their metabolisms doing hours upon hours of cardio and living on tilapia and asparagus to get their amazing bodies. While I loved how they looked, sacrificing quality of life that much was not worth it to me. I continued my researching and learned about flexible dieting and reverse dieting and I was IN LOVE. I found Layne, Paul, and Sohee and felt so liberated with the information they were sharing. After getting leaner on too few calories (in hindsight), I started reverse dieting myself and had good results but decided I wanted to really push my body to see what kind of progress I could make with good old fashioned training and nutrition done right – no magic pills, shortcuts, and empty promises - just hard work and consistency. I also decided that I wanted to compete as a celebration of turning 40 and knew that a goal like that would keep me motivated and on track. I also knew that while I could have tried to do it alone that having a coach would be much more beneficial to me. That’s where Paul came in. I researched a lot of different coaches and really felt drawn to Paul’s philosophy and style and decided to hire him. And I’m so very happy I did! He reverse dieted me for a couple months and then I decided I was ready to prep for a show before my big birthday. I competed in my first competition in April and ended up placing 7th in the Open out of 34 girls in my height class. I was very happy with this considering it was my first show.

Paul has been fantastic throughout the process. He answers emails very quickly and never acts like I am asking stupid questions (and I’m a question asker). He is very matter-of-fact and tells you how it is. He does not coddle you or sugarcoat things but gives constructive feedback and precisely answers questions. Being accountable to him is fantastic when you are in a situation where you can start to doubt yourself or are riding the emotional roller coaster. He brings you back to reality with his objectivity and practicality. It was also fabulous to have Laurin Conlin to discuss more “girl-focused” prep questions and get tips on posing. She was truly wonderful! During peak week, Paul was available to me over text and phone which was a great support and comfort to me especially since this was my first competition. Physically, Paul helped me to build muscle (can’t wait to build more!) and then lean out and bring a package to the stage of which I was proud all while eating flexibly, not depriving myself of foods I love, and not doing endless hours of cardio. That’s not to say his program is easy. It’s not, but it is very effective. I very much trust his process, love the challenge of my workouts, and have been very happy with the results. On a deeper and more important level, working with Paul has helped me really fall in love with this lifestyle and training, to keep pushing myself and never settle, to know that I can always be better but to also appreciate how far I have come. For that I am forever grateful. I am loving my fitness journey and finally feel like I have a path and a direction and can’t wait to see what’s next! Words truly can not express what this process has meant to me. It seems unfair to even attempt to express how incredibly thankful I am for your guidance and direction. I started out at the end of 2012 with a bucket list goal of competing in a bodybuilding competition and like anything worth having, it has been a process and quite the journey. I've made lots of mistakes, lots of progress, met some great people and some people I am okay with never meeting again. But through the good and the bad, I have learned more about myself than I ever knew in 25 years of living prior. I have learned that boundaries and limitations are often self imposed and most of the time in life you can go as far as your mind will take you. I have learned that I truly can accomplish anything I set my mind to; that you get out what you put in to it. Through this process I have discovered a passion unparalleled to anything else in my life, and I know without a doubt somewhere in this passion, lies my purpose for living. My thirst for knowledge on diet and exercise grows more and more every day. I wake up thinking about it and I go to sleep thinking about it. I feel like my potential for growth mentally and physically is in it's infant stages and I am so excited for what the future holds. I won't spend too much time describing the terrible mistakes and coaching alignment I made prior to contacting you because I want this email to be a positive one, not a bash fest, but I will say this, having been down that road has only made me that much more appreciative of you as a coach and a mentor, and I see you as both for me. I have so much to learn from you and I am so thankful Layne recommended you to me. I plan on writing him an email as well just as a thank you for recommending you and also to share a little bit of my experience. This prep for me was as "easy" as a prep can be, and you and I both know there is nothing easy about putting your body through weeks of rigorous training, but the kind of easy I am speaking of is more on the mental and emotional side. I had such an unhealthy relationship with food prior to seeking your guidance. I would feel guilty about eating "regular" food. I hated the way I looked in the mirror after my prep last year, and the worst part is I wasn't even eating unhealthy and I still felt hungry and miserable all the time, and to add insult to injury I was gaining weight, so much so, that I actually weighed more after my prep than I did before I even started. Fast forward to a year later and I have no unhealthy relationships with food. I have no need or urge to binge eat. I feel like I am the healthiest and happiest I have ever been in my entire life. I have never felt so strong mentally and physically, and the results speak for themselves. I feel like I have purpose and direction. Not only am I happy with myself, but I now feel empowered to motivate and inspire others. It seems as though I already had been, and I never even knew, but I have received a recent outpouring of well wishes and comments from complete strangers who have told me that my tenacity and transformation have inspired them to seek their own personal transformations, be it fitness or other life aspects. To me that is what life is all about. To live in such a way that your gifts and your talents are utilized to the maximum capacity to benefit, not just yourself, but the lives of others. I want to leave you with one of my favorite quotes and I think it really captures the essence of how I feel and what I have learned through this whole experience.

When I started working with Paul, I was coming out of a bad competition season and feeling frustrated. I was struggling with my diet, not eating enough and not seeing the results I wanted despite hours of grueling workouts and cardio. It felt like I had hit rock-bottom. I decided that I needed some help figuring out a nutrition plan. Paul was the help that I needed! He put together a detailed nutrition plan based on my goals. I started tracking my macro-nutrients and reporting-in with him each week. That accountability helped keep me motivated to stay on track and not lose sight of my goals. I dropped weight gradually but consistently, and managed to continue gaining muscle while getting leaner than ever! After 12 weeks, I walked on stage feeling strong, confident and healthy and finally won the overall! Paul is excellent at what he does! I emailed Paul regarding a contest prep program when I came across his leg day training video on his wedding day with Layne Norton and I have to admit that it was the best decision that I have made. When I first decided to compete in my first bodybuilding competition in September 2013, I had trouble looking for a coach that cared more about their clients than anything else. Paul came across to me as one of the most genuine person I have met even from our very first conversation over email. Without his guidance, I would not have been able to get into the condition I was for both my competitions. In the span of 19 weeks, I have lost 19kg in total, without excessive amounts of cardio, or extremely low intake of food. I knew going in to the contest prep that my nutrition and cardio was a very important piece of the puzzle and not to be taken lightly. I wanted to be assured that I would not wreck my metabolism through taking my calories too low and/or overdoing cardio through the process and I knew that was possible had I tried to navigate this on my own or try the next diet e-book for figure contest prep offered by so many “coaches” online. Your name was given to me by a person I highly regarded and someone you had worked with (Layne Norton) and with his recommendation and the countless questions you answered for me before I hired you as my coach, I knew I was in good hands. My anxiety level was next to nothing knowing that you had a plan to take my body through a slow and healthy fat loss and I completely trusted you each week to take me through the process all the way to the day of the show. I appreciate the time you took in helping me better understand the body’s response to the changes we made over the course of the contest prep. I also found that your method in providing me the macros and cardio parameters still allowed a lot of flexibility in what I was able to eat and the type of cardio I was able to do. I had entered my first competition (Muscle Mania/ Fitness Universe, Miami Beach) this past June and had decided to begin preparing 120 days out. I, for the most part, have dedication and energy to spare in the gym and had made some great strides physically over those months - but when it came to my diet and the science behind it all, I was very much a novice, and knew I could do better. As the competition approached I felt I needed some serious professional advice regarding my peaking plan for the weeks leading up to the show since I have never been through that stage before. I asked Paul for his advice and he prepared for me an extraordinarily detailed plan for my final 14 days including diet and workouts, and a plethora of seasoned tips for those final days. And what do you know - I won the competition in the model division beating over 100 other competitors! There is no doubt in my mind that what I got from Paul helped me win the competition - I wouldn't have looked as good or been as prepared without it. My only regret was that I waited so long to seek his help. My next show is 4 months away and I will be using his plan throughout this time around.

Hey Paul!

I was just reflecting on the Arnold and looking at old pictures and I was actually pretty shocked. I did this comparison so it's easy to see. The first photo is September 2012. We can call this one #yougotgurud lol notice I'm so depleted and dehydrated I look old! No abs no nothing just collar bone and wrinkles.

The next photo is from October 2012. I call this one "sick and tired". My diuretics backfired on me here. My face is puffy. At this point my hair had started thinning and wasn't soft anymore from being so depleted for so long.

The last one is from the Arnold on Thursday. My abs and shoulders look the best they ever have, I look healthier, younger, and happier. I can never thank you enough for all you have done for me! I've been wearing my jacket all weekend and will wear it again Sunday when I go back.

Seeing how it is incredibly hard to be objective with yourself during prep hiring Paul turned out to be a great decision! There are a lot of scary stories out there regarding bad coaching and unhealthy, crazy, ultra restrictive diet plans that clients are put on but Paul cuts through all that with scientifically sound, healthy methods to achieving your goals. He replies back to all your emails very quickly (I even emailed him during his honeymoon vacation by accident, sorry Paul, and he still replied within minutes!).

At 36 years old, married with 3 kids, my health was in the gutter. I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and suffered a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) which made we really evaluate my current health. In 2009, I decided to lose some weight but wasn't too successful. In 6 months I had lost 10lbs but wasn't too sure how to lose more. Paul is a coworker of mine and I overheard him talking to someone about his diet and how he can adjust his macros to either gain or lose weight. I wanted to know more so I got with Paul and he showed me everything I needed to know to lose more weight. From nutrition to lifting weights, Paul was there to guide me.

In just 1 year I was able to drop 45lbs but more importantly, I was able to come off my cholesterol medicine and lower my blood pressure dosage. Seeing the impact it has had on my health, I decided to continue learning from Paul and bring my training to the next level. For a year, I followed Paul's training advice and the diets he put together for me. Paul and I would train together from time to time and not only would he show me the proper way to do an exercise but he would explain it in detail, telling me which muscles were being worked and what it should feel like. I truly believe this has taken my training to the next level and I feel more comfortable in the gym because of it.

I am only in my 3rd year of training but Paul has helped me achieve more than I could have imagined. I recently competed in my first Powerlifting contest and Paul was there as well; both competing and helping me out with words of encouragement and deciding the next weight for my lifts. My lifts totaled 1025lbs and I couldn't have been happier.

With another Powerlifting meet in store this year and possibly my first bodybuilding show in 2013, I am sure to keep Paul in my corner during this journey. For years I felt like I was spinning my wheels trying to stay in shape while balancing my life in and out of work. I tried most fad diets the muscle magazines were selling, and nothing ever seemed to work. When I met Paul a few years ago at our gym, he introduced me to proper nutrition and training methods that were backed by science AND results. Bodybuilding is one of the things in my life that I really enjoy. I have a true love and passion for this sport. No other sport makes me feel the way I do when I am in the gym training. I had been contemplating competing for awhile. I finally stepped up and decided no more talking about it, it was time to do it. I was recommended to use Paul Revelia by Layne Norton. This told me a lot right off the bat. I thought to myself, of Layne Norton recommends this guy he must be the real deal and boy was I right. Paul and I hit it off right from the start. I was ready to put in the work and he was ready to guide me in the right path to be the absolute best. I ended up taking 2nd in the teen class at my first show and 1st in the teen class in my second show.

I am now in what people call offseason and still under Paul's guidance. I decided to stick with Paul for many reasons. The biggest reason is that Paul truly cares about his clients. Paul and I went through a lot together during my contest prep and shared a lot of great memories. He was always willing to do whatever he could to make sure I was in the best position come show day. He would stay up late on skype watching me pose, he would meet up with me and help practice on posing, he would share encouraging words when the times were getting tough, and he even came out to my first show to support me. One of my most memorable moments during my contest prep was getting dream tan slapped on me by Paul and his wife Misty. Another great moment was when Paul and I were backstage pumping up. They didn't have any weights, bands, etc. so what did we do you may ask? Paul being the GIANT he is, would hold my long sleeve shirt in all kind of weird positions to create different exercises and resistance to pump each and every muscle up. I know this had to be tiring, even if he didn't show it. I was blessed to have him back there with me and blessed to have him as my coach.

Now we are working toward some bigger plans and goals and I am sure that with his help, support, and unmatched knowledge everything can be accomplished. Paul was proably one of the smartest decisions I have made for my bodybuilding career. If you are serious about bodybuilding, you should have a coach. In my opinion, there is no match for Paul Revelia. Paul is an awesome coach and I would recommend you to use him without any hesitation. I can't wait to see what we bring to the stage in 2014, it's going to be EPIC so be prepared.
