There is no doubt that preparing for a bodybuilding/physique contest can be quite intimidating, especially if it’s your first time. There are so many vital components necessary for bringing to the stage a ripped, dense, full, and muscular body that it’s very easy to become both confused and overwhelmed.
Before deciding to fully invest yourself in contest prep, think about the reason you want to compete. The demands of contest prep are not for the faint-hearted. There is a growing trend of competing in bikini, physique, figure, and bodybuilding, many competitors step on stage with good intentions but for the wrong reasons.
Before you begin the journey, go to the nearest local show and check it out.
Pay close attention to the category you want to compete in.
Regardless of your level, a game plan is a necessity and will make getting ready for your first show so much easier.
Everyone has daily demands outside of contest prep. It’s crucial to figure out how you’ll be able to balance it all before you start investing your time and money into a prep. How will you make your sessions fit around your daily work, school, and family demands? When will you prep meals and find time to eat throughout the day? You have to find a way to make it work in advance.
The competitive bodybuilding lifestyle isn’t cheap, especially for female competitors. Take time to map out a budget and assess whether or not you can afford all the costs involved.
Without a proper support system to give you the tough love and motivation you need, it can be a challenge to push through those rough days on your own. Keep your support system in the form of family and friends close throughout your prep.
I understand that hiring a coach may be a cost not everyone can afford but I can’t stress enough how nice it is to have someone keeping an eye on you. I use a coach during contest prep to help me stay on track and remove all the stress and guesswork from the process.
If you prepare correctly, the contest prep process will teach you a lot about yourself and your abilities. It will transform you physically, mentally, and emotionally. Good luck!
